How I Use Essential Oils for Hormone Support
How I Use Essential Oils for Hormone Support
Balancing hormones naturally can feel overwhelming, especially when dealing with mood swings, fatigue, PMS, or cycle irregularities. As a certified aromatherapist, one of the most powerful tools I’ve added to my daily wellness routine is essential oils. With consistent, intentional use, oils can support your endocrine system, help manage stress, and bring calm and balance to your body.
In this post, I’ll walk you through how I personally use essential oils for hormone support, including my favorite blend, Harmonious Healing by Revive Essential Oils, along with other oils I use depending on my cycle and wellness needs.
Why Essential Oils for Hormones?
Essential oils interact with the body through the limbic system, which influences emotions, memory, and hormone production. They can help reduce stress hormones like cortisol and support the glands responsible for hormone regulation, including the pituitary, adrenals, and ovaries. While essential oils don’t contain hormones, many have calming or adaptogenic effects that promote hormonal balance. Here is How I Use Essential Oils for Hormone Support.
Study: Lavender and clary sage influence salivary cortisol and mood
Study: Effect of aromatherapy on menopausal symptoms
My Go-To Blend: Harmonious Healing by Revive Essential Oils
If you’re just starting your hormone support journey, REVIVE Harmonious Healing is a fantastic option. It’s a proprietary blend designed specifically to support hormonal wellness using both essential oils and plant-based progesterone.
What’s Inside:
Copaiba: Helps reduce inflammation and soothes the nervous system
Frankincense: Supports mood and promotes hormonal harmony
Cedarwood: Grounds the nervous system and encourages calm
Bergamot: Uplifts mood and helps manage cortisol
Peppermint: Energizing and helpful for relieving headaches or fatigue
Clove: Stimulates circulation and is rich in antioxidants
USP-grade Progesterone (from wild yam extract): Helps support progesterone levels during the luteal phase
MCT Oil and Tocopherol: Used as the carrier and antioxidant base
How I Use It: I apply Harmonious Healing on my inner arms, lower abdomen, and wrists once or twice daily, especially during the second half of my cycle (luteal phase). It has a grounding, slightly sweet and spicy scent and feels like a reset button when I’m feeling off balance.
Other Essential Oils I Use for Hormone Support
Clary Sage (Salvia sclarea)
Known as one of the top hormone-supporting oils, clary sage is helpful for estrogen balance, PMS symptoms, and cramps.
Study: Clary sage essential oil reduces cortisol and improves mood
How I use it: I massage it onto my lower abdomen diluted in a carrier oil during the luteal phase or add it to a diffuser blend for emotional support.
Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia)
Lavender helps reduce stress, improve sleep, and calm anxiety, which are all key contributors to hormonal imbalance.
Study: Lavender aromatherapy improves sleep and reduces stress
How I use it: I diffuse it in the evening or add a few drops to an Epsom salt bath before bed. It’s also great in DIY calming rollers.
Basil (Ocimum basilicum)
Basil is energizing, helps fight fatigue, and supports the adrenals, which play a key role in hormone regulation.
Study: Basil essential oil reduces oxidative stress and improves adrenal function
How I use it: I add a drop to my morning diffuser blends with lemon or peppermint or apply it (diluted) over my lower back to support adrenal health.
Rose (Rosa damascena)
Rose is emotionally balancing and nurturing. It has been shown to help regulate menstrual cycles and reduce PMS anxiety.
Study: Effects of rose essential oil inhalation on anxiety and hormonal markers
How I use it: I apply a small amount to my wrists or chest during emotionally intense days or during my menstrual cycle.
Thyme (Thymus vulgaris)
Thyme has natural progesterone-supporting properties and is especially helpful during the second half of your cycle.
Study: Thyme contains phytoestrogens and supports progesterone
How I use it: I blend a few drops with clary sage and lavender for topical use over my abdomen during the luteal phase.
Cypress (Cupressus sempervirens)
Cypress supports circulation and lymphatic flow, which is especially beneficial for relieving PMS-related bloating and cramping. It’s also grounding and helps balance emotions.
Study: Cypress oil stimulates circulation and has antispasmodic effects
How I use it: I dilute it with a carrier oil and massage it onto areas where I feel bloated or crampy, especially around my lower abdomen and legs during my menstrual phase.
Support Your Cycle With Oils
Instead of using the same oils every day, you can support your body based on where you are in your cycle. Here’s an example (do what works for you!)
Menstrual Phase (Days 1–5): Lavender, rose, Harmonious Healing
Follicular Phase (Days 6–14): Basil, geranium, lemon
Ovulation (Around Day 14): Clary sage, ylang ylang, rose
Luteal Phase (Days 15–28): Harmonious Healing, thyme, lavender, clary sage
Tips for Safe and Effective Use
Always dilute essential oils before applying them to your skin. A 2-5 percent dilution is typically safe for daily use.
Stay consistent. It often takes several weeks of daily use to see noticeable improvements.
Use essential oils as part of a bigger wellness picture that includes stress reduction, whole foods, movement, and good sleep.
If you’re looking for a high-quality blend to make hormone support simple and effective, REVIVE’s Harmonious Healing is one of the best options I’ve found. It combines hormone-supporting essential oils with USP-grade progesterone from wild yam to create a well-rounded approach to hormonal wellness.
