How To Switch To Clean Beauty | The Basics How To Switch To Clean Beauty | The Basics

I’ve been giving you tips on how to switch to clean living for a few months now, most of the year actually. Today I’m sharing how to easily switch over the basics, like shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and body lotion. The first things I swapped out for cleaner products were the ones we used the most, like the things I mentioned above. The random little products all over were less important that our basics that we all use daily.

Shampoo + Conditioner

There are lots of ingredients to look out for but start with making sure your stuff doesn’t have parabens, sulfates, or artificial fragrance.

Body Wash

The ingredients here are similar to watch out for but make sure the products you’re using to wash your body don’t have aluminum, parabens, sulfates, triclosan or artificial fragrance or dyes/colorants.

Body Lotion

Same with the above, look out for parabens, fragrance, sulfates, synthetic colorants. Also, watch out for formaldehyde and BHA.

Why

Why should you avoid all of these ingredients? I encourage you to research each on yourself but they are known to disrupt your endocrine system, some are linked to cancers, some are carcinogens, some are toxic to your organs, some can cause allergies and asthma, and more.

Nature by Canus

Here are a couple of products to get you started.

Nature Fragrance-Free Pure Vegetal Base Soap

This one is perfect for switching to clean living and also great for sensitive skin. It has moisturizing fatty acids, vitamins A and B3, potassium, zinc, and selenium. It cleanses your skin without stripping it of its natural oils. So this is also perfect for going in to fall and winter when we need all the moisture our skin can get.

Pro Tips:

Chop your bar soap into pieces to make it last longer, this also makes it super handy for travel.

I also use bar soap to clean my makeup brushes.

Nature Fragrance-Free Creamy Body Lotion

When I look for a daily moisturizer to use when I get out of the shower I need something that is going to be quick absorbing and super hydrating, that’s often hard to find because the super hydrating lotions are too thick and greasy. This lotion is perfect and great for every day, it’s creamy but absorbs fast and leaves my skin super hydrated. I pump some into my hands and then add a couple of drops of essential oil to my hand for added skin support and a bit of scent. Some of my favorites to add are Cedarwood and Lavender.

Pro Tip: Download the Think Dirty app and scan your household products, it makes it easier than looking up every ingredient. You can also search your product’s ingredients on skincarisma.com or EWG’s skin deep website.

  1. LOVE the tip about not feeling overwhelmed by not having a “clean” set of products and just to switch one thing at a time. That’s super smart and a great place to get started!
