Today I’m talking about a hot topic, clean beauty. I’ve been switching to non-toxic products for just over a year now and it’s been such an eye-opening journey. I started just because I wanted to clean up the way we do laundry and clean but quickly discovered it was a whole new world beyond ditching dryer sheets.
Something I’ve been passionate about since I started blogging 5 years ago is skincare so I started digging into skincare ingredients and what their purposes were. I found lots of products around our house that were full of synthetic ingredients and I’ve ditched a lot of things. Let’s dive into clean skincare and why I love finding brands like Valentia who never uses ingredients we don’t want/need in beauty products.

Synthetics in Skincare
Synthetic ingredients are any ingredients that aren’t derived from nature and instead made in a lab.
There are quite a few ingredients to watch out for but here are a few to put on your radar:
- Artificial colors
- Artificial fragrance
- Diethanolamine (DEA)
- Heavy metals
What is Clean Beauty?
Since clean living is such a popular topic, clean beauty has a few different meanings depending on who you talk to. To me, practicing clean beauty is researching and educating yourself on what you are putting in and on your body. Look up ingredients, read studies, and then use your best judgment. There are no hard and fast rules, it’s all about empowerment and doing what you know is best for you and your family. For me, the things I completely got rid of are artificial fragrance products, and anything else that causes immune system issues, respiratory issues, reproductive health issues, and hormone disruption.
My favorite thing is when you can find a brand that is 100% clean. Like some brands will have 1 or 2 clean products but not everything they make is clean. I like that I can shop Valentia and just pick out what I need without worrying about dangerous ingredients. Here are a few of my favorites:
Carrier Oils // all of my carrier oils (for essential oil mixing) are from Valentia they have any oil you can think of.
Hyaluronic Acid Serum // I’m in love with this one because it has all of the amazing benefits of hyaluronic acid like creating a barrier of moisture on your skin and plumping + the added benefits of sea kelp. It balances and hydrates so well, it’s perfect for winter.
Lash and Brow Serum // I have lash extensions so I just use this on my brows but it definitely helps fill them in where I have sparse areas! It’s made with castor oil and did I mention all of their packaging is just gorgeous!?
